Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Eric Djavid (“BlablaFrench”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses and shares information when you use the BlablaFrench mobile app and blablafrench.app (together, the “Service”). We keep data collection to what we need to help you learn French, and we never sell your personal information.

1. Information we collect

Information you provide

• Account information. When you sign up — including via Sign in with Apple or Google — we receive your name and email address. If you use Apple’s “Hide My Email”, we only receive the relay address.
• Learning content. Vocabulary you save, lesson and exercise progress, streaks, and preferences (such as your interface language and level).
• Voice recordings. When you use pronunciation or conversation features, we record short audio clips of your speech so we can transcribe them and give you feedback. See “Microphone & voice” below.
• Communications. Messages you send to our support email.

Information collected automatically

• Usage & device data. App interactions, features used, session timing, approximate device type, operating system, app version and crash logs — used to keep the app working and improve it.
• Identifiers. A random app-instance identifier used for analytics and to link your subscription entitlement to your account.

2. Microphone & voice

We only access your microphone while you actively use a pronunciation or conversation exercise, and we ask for your permission first. Audio is sent to our speech and AI providers to transcribe your speech and generate feedback. Recordings are used to power these features and may be retained briefly to provide the feedback, and are not used to identify you or sold to anyone. You can revoke microphone access anytime in your device settings.

3. How we use your information

• Provide, personalize and improve your French-learning experience.
• Generate AI tutor conversations, pronunciation scoring and lesson feedback.
• Save your progress, vocabulary and streaks across sessions.
• Manage subscriptions, purchases and entitlements.
• Diagnose bugs, prevent abuse, and keep the Service secure and reliable.
• Respond to your support requests.

4. Service providers we share data with

We share information only with vendors who process it on our behalf to run the Service. Each is bound to protect it and use it only for that purpose:

• Supabase — secure hosting of your account, progress and app database.
• Apple & Google — authentication (Sign in with Apple / Google) and app-store payment processing.
• RevenueCat — subscription management and purchase validation.
• OpenAI and/or Anthropic — AI models that power tutor conversations and text feedback.
• ElevenLabs — speech processing and audio for pronunciation and listening features.
• PostHog — privacy-conscious product analytics and crash reporting.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety and security of our users and the Service. If BlablaFrench is involved in a merger or acquisition, data may transfer as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.

5. International transfers

Our providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States and the European Union. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

6. Data retention

We keep your account data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data from our systems within 30 days, except where we must retain limited records to comply with legal, tax or security obligations. Aggregated or anonymized data that can no longer identify you may be retained.

7. Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live (including under GDPR and the CCPA/CPRA), you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal data, and to object to or restrict certain processing. You can:

• Delete your account and data in the app under Profile → Settings → Delete account, or via our Support page.
• Turn off microphone access in your device settings.
• Contact us at hey@ericdjav.com to exercise any privacy right.

We will never discriminate against you for exercising these rights.

8. Children’s privacy

BlablaFrench is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country), and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Security

We use encryption in transit, access controls and reputable infrastructure providers to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to safeguard your information and limit access to it.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we’ll update the “Effective” date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated policy.
